In this article, we describe an unique technique for electrical insulation of metallic gasket to perform simultaneous measurements of electrical resistivity and neutron diffraction under high pressure. The anodic oxide coating was adopted as the insulation layer of the aluminum (JIS A2017) gasket used in the hybrid-anvil device for neutron diffraction. In the feasibility tests of the coated gaskets, maximum pressure of about 6 GPa was generated without electrical breakdown of the coating or disconnection of Au leads.

The specimens of nano-Au foil (3-5 m thickness) with various grain sizes (23-156 nm) are prepared by the gas deposition method and subsequent thermal annealings. Irradiations of the specimens with 60-MeV C ions, 3.54-GeV Xe ions or 2.0-MeV electrons are performed at low temperature. The defect accumulation behavior is observed by measuring the electrical resistivity change during irradiation. Through an analysis of defect accumulation behavior, cross-sections for defect production, , and annihilation, , in nano-Au increase monotonically as the grain size decreases. These results are considered to be caused by the existence of a large volume fraction of the regions near grain boundaries in nano-Au where the threshold energy for atomic displacements, E, becomes lower than in polycrystalline gold. The possibility of electronic excitation effects in nano-Au is also discussed.

NpFeGa and NpCoGa are antiferromagnets with a Nel temperature of 116 K and 47 K, respectively. On the other hand, NpNiGa orders ferromagnetically below 30 K, but changes into another magnetic state with an antiferromagnetic character at 18 K.

We succeeded in growing a high-quality single crystal of UIr with the monoclinic PbBi-type structure by the Czochralski pulling method in a tetra-arc furnace. The magnetization measurement indicates that UIr is an Ising-like ferromagnet with the Curie temperature = 46 K. The magnetic moment is found to be oriented along the [1 0 /U. The magnetic property, reflected in the magnetic susceptibility, electrical resistivity, Hall coefficient and thermoelectric power, is highly anisotropic. We also observed the de Haas-van Alphen (dHvA) oscillation. All the detected branches have large cyclotron effective masses ranging from 9.6 to 32 . They are consistent with the electronic specific heat coefficient =49 mJ/Kmol.
